Councillors
The elected council is made up of 10 councillors and the Mayor. The Mayor is elected by popular vote for a four year term.
Under the Local Government Act 2009, councillors have a responsibility to:
- Participate in the allocation of council's budget
- Play a key role in the review and creation of Council policies and objectives
- Review council's performance of service delivery to the community
Each councillor has been allocated a portfolio responsibility coupled with a specific rural area in the region.
It is important that residents living outside the Mackay urban area have better access to councillors. The new allocation provides councillors with a better platform to engage the community.
Residents are encouraged to contact their councillor who represents their rural area should they wish to discuss any matters.
