The Mackay City Centre will come alive this Friday evening when the Greater Whitsunday Farmers' Market host Celebrate Under the Stars with your local community. Learn from local farmers, along with a range of amazing food made from local produce and shop for the perfect Christmas gift. Entertainment will be abuzz with alpacas, a watermelon eating competition and a horse and carriage ride into the Mackay City Centre.

2) Cyclone Saturday

Saturday, December 9, 8am – 1pm
Caneland Central

Come along and learn how to Get Ready for storm season. There will be various emergency management agencies there to teach you the tips and the best ways to prepare yourself, your family and your home. There will also be prize draw with a chance to win a generator on the day. If you are looking to pick up a copy of council's Emergency Action Guide, these will be available on the day. They can also be picked up from council Client Service Centre’s and Libraries, or download a copy at

3) Sarina Community Christmas Celebration

Saturday, December 9, 5pm – 8pm
Sarina Cultural Hall and Anzac Park precinct

Join Mayor Greg Williamson and Jay and Dave from Triple M Mackay & The Whitsundays – when they host Sarina’s annual Community Christmas Celebration. The precinct will transform into the town of Bethlehem from 5pm. Entertain on the night will include a puppet show, face painting, colouring competition, Christmas hat competition, animal farm, Christmas carols and of course, the lighting of the Sarina Christmas tree.

4) FAME Talent School presents Vaudeville of the 21st Century

Audiences will be taken on a journey of popular showbiz star June Lamont as she tells her dazzling story as performer during the days of Vaudeville and the theatre scene. Told by the talented students of Fame Talent School this script includes singing, a diverse range of characters and dance routine in the 1920s style right through to current contemporary and commercial performances popular today.

Do you have overdue fines? Why not swap some non-perishable food items for your library fines. Council will waive your overdue fines and donate all food to a local charity in the Mackay region for Christmas hampers.  

6) 2017 Bulls Masters Youth Cup

The Bulls Masters is extremely proud to be providing more opportunities to cricketers throughout this great state of Queensland. A week-long tournament providing a pathway for young regional cricketers to reach the highest level in the sport. Providing a perfect chance to compete against the best in the state and put their hand up for selection in Queensland teams!

7) Floor talk with David Conway

David Conway has always had a real passion for art, after being admitted to the spinal injuries unit at Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane (2004), this was the start of his rekindled love for art. David has found painting and drawing to be very therapeutic for his pain and helps him to keep a positive attitude. He invites you to come along to a meet and greet to his new exhibition currently in the new Jubilee Community Centre.

8) "Personality Captured" by Creative Shots Photo Club

The Botanic Gardens Cafe, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

Creative Shots Photo Club through this exhibition give the viewer a display of various forms of 'personality' captured in a photographic image. With subjects varying from inanimate objects, to places, people and animals. 'Personality' surrounds us if we take the time to see it. The Club would like all viewers to vote for their favourite image with the highest voted image being awarded "People's Choice 2017". The winning image will be showcased in a new exhibition to be held at the Gordon White Library during February 2018.

Christmas in the Gardens

Friday, December 15, 5.30pm – 8.30pm
Meadowlands Amphitheatre, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

Bring your family and friends to our annual Christmas in the Gardens. MC on the night Jay Shipston will host a great night under the stars. Students from Fame Talent School will hit the stage, the wonderful Anette Worthington will join us again, Libby Courtice and Stephen Donaldson who will be joined by Brett Sturdy pianist from Queensland Ballet Company.

Food stalls open at 5.30pm and include Mackay Host Lions Food Van, Willy’s Woodfired Pizza and Buffstars coffee. Run for MI Life will be selling glow sticks and flameless candles. Christmas in the Gardens is an alcohol-free event.
