2018-19 fees and charges linked to CPI

A majority of council fees and charges have increased by two per cent for the 2018-19 financial year.

Council adopted the new schedule today, which comes into effect on July 1.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the modest increase was in line with CPI.

“We have carefully analysed our costs and considered an across-the-board increase was a much fairer approach for ratepayers,” he said.

“The increase helps cover the rising costs of providing user pays services to our community.”

Fees related to Sarina, Mackay and Pioneer Valley museums have been reduced to no charge to generate more interest in these facilities.

“We hope this will encourage greater attendance by visitors, as well as residents and school groups,” Cr Williamson said.

In some cases, fees and charges had reduced because of efficiencies found by council staff, he said.

“There are new fees and charges relating to heavy vehicle parking on private property and the soon-to-be introduced State Government container deposit scheme.”

Cr Williamson said only six per cent of council’s operating revenue was generated from fees and charges.
