Artspace Workshop Room
During December school holidays, no matter your age, bring your friends and family to Artspace for lots of creative fun, cutting, hole punching, drawing and alphabet rubber stamping to make your own handmade wrapping paper and name tags. It’s such a fun way to give your gifts a very special, personal touch that your friends and family will love! So, stay at Artspace for a few minutes or a few hours, it’s free for all, no bookings necessary. (Parental supervision for children under 13 required.)

Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens
Is there a budding artist in your home? If so, here’s an opportunity for your children to have their artwork showcased in the February Lagoons Gallery Art Exhibition and win a $50 Australian Geographic gift voucher. This competition is open to children aged 10 - 17. All you must do is use your imagination to create a piece of hand painted canvas art that reflects the theme, “nature”.
These art works will then be showcased in our February Lagoons Art Gallery Exhibition. As part of the exhibition, we will ask members of the public to vote for their favourite art work. The winner will be announced once the exhibition is over. The Summer Reading Club is on again! With a “Curious Creatures!” theme, this summer’s club is packed full of fun and creativity. Participation in the Summer Reading Club is free and is a fun and safe program to keep the kids busy this summer. All children who register for the Summer Reading Club go into a national draw to win 1 of 8 iPods. There are online competitions to participate in, reading logs to complete and submit into a prize draw plus competitions and activities at your library.

Sarina Sugar Shed tours are a delight for all ages! On the tour you will see the special miniature sugar processing and distilling equipment that has been sourced from all over the world! Along with the processing mill, there are multimedia presentations, souvenir shop, picnic areas, easy parking and wheelchair-friendly access. Tours run at 9.30am, 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm, visitors will need to arrive 15 minutes prior to tour. Tours can unexpectedly fill up. To avoid disappointment, please call through to secure your booking. Entry prices are $12 - $25, family and group booking rates available. Pride of the region discount is available when proof of residency is shown. Children receive free fairy floss and non-alcoholic ginger beer as part of the tour as well as free educational handouts.
