Council setting up Sport and Recreation Advisory Committee

WANTED: Community-minded residents with a keen interest in sport and recreation.

Council is setting up a Sport and Recreation Advisory Committee and is seeking leaders in our community to be involved.

Cr Ross Gee, who will chair the committee, said sport and recreation was a high priority for council.

“We have a sport and recreation program within council, but this committee will include external stakeholders,” he said.

“The new committee will provide advice to council on current and emerging sport and recreation issues and opportunities within the Mackay Regional Council area.

“It will advise council on the provision of sport and recreation assets to meet the needs of current and future generations.

“Importantly, it will also assist council in promoting increased participation in physical activity.”

Expressions of interest for community members to join the committee are currently open.

Up to 10 community members will be selected to join the committee. Members will be appointed for three years and may re-apply at the end of the term.

Advisory committee meetings will be held on a bi-monthly basis.

Anyone seeking more information, including the terms of reference for the committee, or wanting to apply, can go to mackay.qld.gov.au/sport

Expressions of interest close on June 5.
