Councillors jump aboard bus for trip north

Published: 06 Aug 2019

Councillors will jump aboard a small bus and head to the far most northern parts of our region for a Council in Community Day tomorrow (Wednesday, August 7).

The run sheet for the visit to the North Coast and Beaches locality has councillors dropping in on the likes of Seaforth, Calen, Yalbaroo and Midge Point.

During travel on the bus, councillors will inspect infrastructure, including roads and bridges, in those areas.

“There will be an opportunity for residents to meet with councillors at a community catch-up at The Point Tavern at Midge Point from 1.45pm to 2.30pm,’’ said Cr Laurence Bonaventura.

“Earlier, we’re inspecting the restoration works undertaken at Midge Point to repair damage from Cyclone Debbie and to make the beach more resilient to future extreme weather events,’’ he said.

“It will be good to hear from residents at the community catch-up about their thoughts on the restoration works and any other issues in their neighbourhood.”

There is no need to RSVP for the community catch-up. Simply turn up at the tavern just before 1.45pm.

Anyone is welcome to attend.

Cr Ross Gee said the North Coast and Beaches locality covered a large part of the council region from Mackay’s Northern Beaches up to the boundary with Whitsunday Regional Council.

“The last Council in Community Day for this locality back in March visited areas like Blacks Beach and Rowallan Park,’’ he said.

“This time we’re heading north and are keen to hear from any residents who can make it to the community catch-up.”
