Free guide takes you through Festival spectacle

A free tour guide has been organised for every resident headed to the DBCT Illuminate spectacle.

The guide will help residents navigate their way through a mind-blowing spectacle of discovery featuring light, sound and visual art installations.

DBCT Illuminate kicks off this Wednesday night from 6pm to 9pm and runs until Sunday in the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens.

To access the guide, simply grab your iPhone or Android device and search “DBCT Illuminate” at the app store.

Once the app appears, click download and you have an informative tour guide at your fingertips.

Community Engagement Committee chair Cr Fran Mann said the app was packed with information about the last 30 years of the Festival of Arts.

“Thirty years of Festivals is a lot of history, so the app is a great tool to take you through the displays and installations in the gardens,” Cr Mann said.

“It breaks the areas up into decades and gives you the highlights of those years of the Festival as well as some background information,” she said.

“There is also a map and audio commentary, so feel free to bring your headphones.”

The best parking spot for this event is the Tamarind carpark, located on Lagoon Street between Jackson and Mackenzie Streets.

For the best viewing experience, start your tour at the welcome tent at the Tamarind carpark end of the Gardens and follow the marked route through the Gardens towards the Lagoons Cafe.  Food and drink will be available for purchase along the route.

This event is funded by Festivals Australia.
