Give a shout out to Sarina’s unsung wonder women

Published: 21 Jan 2019

Every year, in the first week of March, Sarina goes all out to celebrate everyday women who do exceptional things.

Known as the Sarina Women’s Week Awards, this special evening of celebration gives residents a chance to recognise and acknowledge women who usually fly under the radar.

Cr Fran Mann encouraged residents to take a few moments to nominate someone for an award today.

“So many of these women work exceptionally hard behind the scenes in our community and have an impact that is far-reaching,” Cr Mann said.

“They do what they do because they love it, not for the recognition, however this is an amazing opportunity for the community to acknowledge their efforts and thank them,” she said.

“To nominate someone, email their names, contact details and a brief paragraph about them to our Sarina Neighbourhood Centre team at margaret.mcdowall@mackay.qld.gov.au

“Don’t forget to include your name, email and phone number and let us know if you wish to remain anonymous.”

Nominations close Friday, February 22.  For more information, call the Neighbourhood Centre on 4961 9283.

All nominations are considered for the Queensland Women’s Week Mary Malone Perpetual Award.  This award was created in honour of the contributions made by Mary Malone to the Sarina community and is selected by a panel of judges.

All nominees will be invited as a guest to attend the Sarina Women’s Week Dinner and Awards Night at the Bob Wood Cultural Hall on Friday, March 8, where they will be recognised and receive a certificate to commemorate their nomination.

The awards are an initiative of the Sarina Neighbourhood Centre and council and are supported by the Queensland Government, Sarina Community Bendigo Bank, Aurizon and BMA Hay Point.
