Pier works begin

Work is set to begin on the reconstruction of the Hospital Bridge fishing pier.

A 15x11-metre L-shape design will be installed to replace the fishing pier that was damaged in Cyclone Debbie. The new design will increase the structural integrity of the pier for future flood events.

Contractors, Casa Engineering, are now on-site and will start work on this highly anticipated project.

There will be no impact to motorists who need to access Mackay Base Hospital during construction.

The Bluewater Trail will also remain open during construction however, detours may be in place at times.

The fishing pier is expected to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
