Reindeers stuck at North Pole. Santa sends alpacas

The City Centre is about to come alive with a twilight Farmer’s Market.

Traditionally held on a Wednesday, the Greater Whitsunday Food Network with support from Mackay City Centre has created a special Friday night event to celebrate our local farmers and their produce.

Dubbed a Celebration Under the Stars, it will be held on Friday December 8, from 4pm to 8pm, at Bluewater Quay.

Councillor Karen May, Deputy Chair of Economic Development and Planning, said the special Christmas market will appeal to young and old alike.

“The twilight event will be perfect for the whole family with horse and carriage rides, photo opportunities with alpacas, live entertainment and plenty of fresh food and produce on sale,” she said.

There will be plenty of fun on offer:

  • kids watermelon eating competition at 6pm
  • meet, greet and take a picture with adorable alpacas
  • horse and carriage ride in the Mackay City Centre
  • lawn games with the kids or your mates – like watermelon bowling!
  • sit, eat and relax while listening to live music.

To embrace the festive season, Mackay City Centre has sponsored horse and carriage rides for the event that even Santa would approve.

City Centre explorers can jump on and off at multiple points located on Victoria Street (near Gelatissimo), Bluewater Quay Brisbane Street (at the twilight event) and at Paxtons Night Markets.

Coinciding with the last day of school, it’s a great opportunity for families to take the kids out and celebrate the end of the school year.

Paxtons Night Markets is also held on the same night and shoppers will be able to stroll along River Street between both markets while meeting stall holders, local artists and farmers.

Highlights of the night will be mouth-watering creations from Issy’s Café using local produce and shoppers will have the opportunity to buy local products from a range of artisan makers and bakers.

City Centre businesses are invited to contact Greater Whitsunday Food Network if they would like to participate and create something special at their shop or restaurant on the Friday evening.
