2) The Wall: Samuel Tupou

Open until February 11, 2018
Artspace Mackay, Gallery Two

Cairns based artist, Samuel Tupou is the first artist to create a work on The Wall as part of the Artspace AIR Program. The Wall is an ongoing series of temporary, site-specific works where Queensland based artists are commissioned to create an artwork that has relevance to either the current exhibition or the Mackay region.

3) Focus on the Collection: Davida Allen

In 2016 award winning artist Davida Allen donated three paintings to the Mackay Regional Council Art Collection. Allen is known for her distinctive style of painting where she eschews brushes for her fingers. While other methods of painting allow for changes to be made, Allen’s technique disallows reform, to do so would destroy the immediacy of the image. http://bit.ly/2gTi3Xn

4) Great Barrier Reef - Anthropocene Project: Emma Lyndsay

Emma Lindsay is a Brisbane based visual artist whose practice explores critical contemporary issues regarding globally endangered species and their habitats. In the exhibition, Great Barrier Reef: Anthropocene Project Lindsay expands the focus further, developing work of regional significance in an art and science encounter with vulnerable species on Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics. http://bit.ly/1dKhZ5M

5) Brought to Life: William T.Cooper

Legendary wildlife filmmaker Sir David Attenborough viewed William T Cooper as ‘‘Australia’s greatest living scientific painter of birds,’’ adding, ‘‘he is possibly the best in the world.’’ This exhibition will focus on Williams’ book illustrations with a selection of original watercolour paintings from the publications Parrots of the World and Pigeons and Doves of Australia. http://bit.ly/1dKhZ5M

6) Mackay Woodturners the “Ultimate Recyclers”

The Botanic Gardens Cafe, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

The Mackay Woodturners celebrate their 30th Anniversary of continuous operation with their exhibition - "The Ultimate Recyclers." This exhibition aims to link the Botanic Gardens, with particular focus on trees, to their completed wood works. The exhibition will include – intarsia, pyrography and carving as well as turned pieces. Created from fallen trees, with most pieces crafted from local species. 9) Frankenstein Art Competition

Calling all young adult artists aged 12 to 25 years old to submit an artistic interpretation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for your chance to win some great prizes. 10) Greater Whitsunday Farmers’ Market
