3) Artist's Talk: Jonathan McBurnie talks about BIRDLAND

North Queensland artist Jonathan McBurnie draws upon the aesthetics of professional wrestling, a performative genre he describes as a fascinating paradox. 5) Mackay Area Fishing Stocking Association Open Day

Saturday, November 6, from 9am to noon 
The Fish Hatchery, 2 Rosewood Drive, Rural View 

Come along and check out the barra fingerlings that are in the tanks! Between 11:30am and noon, they will begin loading the barra fingerlings into the trailer and transport them to the Gooseponds for release. It is estimated that there will be about 450 to 500 fingerlings between 65mm and 100mm in length. They will be released into the Gooseponds at about 12.30pm and it will be a great opportunity for the kids to be involved!

6) Collage and drawing with Jonathan McBurnie

Learn the secrets of artist and cartoonist Jonathan McBurnie’s image making process. Skipping over roughs and sketches, McBurnie instead uses collage as a compositional process, allowing him to create visual mashups from comics, film, art and photography. Participants will plan a work using collage and then draw it, learning a fun and time-effective way of producing work that can easily incorporate the interests of the individual participant. The workshop begins with a free public artist’s talk from 10.30am in the Foundation Gallery. Workshop participants will follow the talk with McBurnie’s practical image making experience in the workshop room from 11.30am. This workshop is for people aged 13 years and above. 7) Movie Screening – Blue

This feature documentary comes at a time when we are making critical decisions that will decide the legacy we leave for generations to come. BLUE shows us there is a way forward and the time to act is now.
