Special workshops being offered by members of the Genealogical Society of Queensland. Convict Connections will explore the lives of convicts and help residents learn how they can find out about their own convict ancestors.

2) The Australian Ballet’s Regional Tour - 'Ella' Documentary Screening

MECC North Foyer

Ella is a documentary following the journey of Australian Ballet dancer Ella Havelka, who in 2012 became the first Indigenous dancer to join the company in its 50-year history. This is a feature-length documentary that premiered in 2016 at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Join us for this free screening in the foyer of the MECC.

3) The Australian Ballet’s Regional Tour presents Coppélia

Swanilda and Franz are in love…until a beautiful stranger, the daughter of the magician Dr Coppelius, appears in town. This sparkling tale of magic and mischief, with its irresistible melodies and ‘living dolls’, is amusing fun for the whole family. Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s stories, Coppélia features exquisite costumes by master designer Kristian Fredrikson. Laughter and love, lively dancing and vivid colour – treat the family to Coppélia.

4) Queensland Veterans Cricket Winter Carnival Mackay

Harrup Park, Juliet Street

The Mackay Winter Cricket Carnival will feature 12 over 60s cricket teams. It is the second year that the carnival has been stage, the first was held last year on the Sunshine Coast. The winter carnival is all about player participation and it provides an opportunity for cricketers of all standards, despite their advancing years, to continue to participate in a sport they all love. It is a great social opportunity to meet up with like-minded acquaintances, new and old, play a game of cricket and catch up socially after the match.

5) Graeme Connors in Concert – ‘From the Backcountry’

Recognised as one of Australia’s most eclectic country singer/songwriters, Graeme has received numerous awards during his more than 40-year career for his contribution to country music. During his highly-anticipated two-hour show, fans will enjoy the hits that made him a household name, favourites from his 19-album catalogue and special debut performances from his upcoming 2018 album.

6) Kids Art Club

Kids Art Club starts this Saturday! Have you booked a spot? It’s a fun, creative art program run by Artspace Mackay. Fabulous local artist Rosemary Payne will be teaching the six- week program of creative art for kids in two age groups. Each week they explore and respond to the exhibitions on show at Artspace Mackay through fun-filled art activities. The fee is $150 per child for six weeks and includes art materials each week. 7) 2018 Wakakirri

Does your school have a story to tell? A remarkable story can change the way people think about the world around them. Wakakirri is a performing arts festival where schools aim to do just that. Each year hundreds of schools across Australia create Story-Dances for Wakakirri that reflect student’s thoughts, ideas and aspirations. These stories are performed in professional theatres in front of the official ‘Wakakirri Panel’ who are searching for ‘Story of the Year’.
