There is plenty to do around the region this week.. Drop in to Artspace tomorrow for your last chance to build a cardboard creation, join local artists and performers for creative activities and live musical entertainment at BMA Kidspace and choose one of 25 Anzac Day services being held across the region next week.

1) Drop-in holiday art activities

Artspace Mackay

Build a community from card! These Easter holidays, no matter your age, bring your friends and family to Artspace for lots of fun making cardboard creations to add to the Artspace Mackay Cardboard Community! The completed pieces will be included in Take root (Colony): Project Another Country, a huge installation by world-renowned artists Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan which will be installed in the FIELD Engineers Gallery, later on this year. Stay for a few minutes or a few hours, it’s free for all, no bookings necessary. 2) Bedtime Stories

4) Falun Gong classes

Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

5) BMA Kidspace

Join local artists and performers for creative art activities designed for toddlers and their adults. BMA Kidspace, Artspace Mackay’s ever popular toddler’s program, gives children under five a chance to explore and have fun with art in a climate of co-operative learning. The program includes free artist-run workshops from 10am to 2pm and live musical entertainment for kids from 12pm to 1pm. Bring your children along for a fun day of art-making, singing and dancing. Proudly presented by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance and Mackay Regional Council.

6) Active in the City – Pilates

Tuesday, April 23, 5.15pm  
Bluewater Quay  

Pilates is a form of low impact exercise that focuses on improving your strength and range of movement.  Not dissimilar to other forms of exercise, it can also help with improving mood and reducing your risk of depression.  This class can cater to people of all fitness levels, it is important however, that you have the ability to comfortably get up and down off the ground.  Bring along a yoga mat and water bottle.  Come along, and give it a go!

7) Discover IT – Microsoft Office

Wednesday, April 24, 10am – 11.30am  
Dudley Denny City Library

Learn the basics of creating documents and spreadsheets in Microsoft Office. Participants require basic computer skills to attend this class and must have the ability to:

*Power on and power off a computer
*Use a mouse
*Start a computer program
*Create, save and close a file

8) Anzac Day Services

Thursday, April 25
Mackay region

There are 25 Anzac Day services being held around the region. Council is offering a free bus service for veterans and students participating in the Mackay Anzac Day march. Those wanting to use this limited service are encouraged to park their vehicles at Caneland Central and catch a bus from the rear Caneland Central bus stop to the assembly area, behind The Dome. There will also be a return service from Alfred Street, between Macalister and Gregory streets, following the 9.30am Anzac service. This service is made possible thanks to PCYC Mackay who have loaned their buses and volunteer bus drivers

9) World Tai Chi Day

Saturday, April 27, 9.30am - 10.30am
Bluewater Quay

For over two decades, a subtle phenomenon has grown across the planet.  Each year in 100s of cities in over 80 nations, people come together to breathe together.  Mackay City Centre is once again joining the phenomenon and holding our very own World Tai Chi Day event in conjunction with Balance Minder by Leanne Simpson.  On Saturday, April 27, come along to the Bluewater Quay to encourage calmness, peace and well-being.  Join us from 9.30am- 10.30am (with registration from 9.15am) for a morning of FREE family fun.  Register online before the day to receive a free gift.
