2) Mackay Musical Comedy Players Inc. – Wicked

3) Guided walks at the Botanic Gardens

Walks start at the Gardens Administration Building

As the weather starts to cool down it makes getting out and about a lot easier. Let us take you on free guided walking tour through the lush gardens and scenic lagoon for an informative morning stroll. They will run every Friday at 10am. 4) Liminal Spaces: Escaping the frame

Opening this week, a new media installation by local artist Glenda Hobdell presents alternate views that are informed by the experience of two caves – one in Hungary, the other in Australia. A synthesis of immense hanging panels, animated videos, light projections and sonic effects reveal an interplay between light and dark, reflection and shadow, positive and negative, still and moving, physical and digital.

5) World Record for Tap Day

To celebrate World Tap Dance Day on Thursday, May 25, we want you to help us officially break the Guinness World Record for the most people participating in a tap dance class in a single venue, which currently sits at 250 people. This free community event, which will be hosted in the MECC and is open to everyone – old and young and in between or whether you are an expert or have no experience at all! 6) Breakfast with Rosie Batty

Mayor Greg Williamson will be hosting a special forum on family and domestic violence. We are fortunate that Rosie Batty, the 2015 Australian of the Year and Family and Domestic Violence campaigner, will open our forum at 8.30am.We need courage and compassion from key players in our community to tackle this issue head on. We all have a role to play so if you can find some time on Friday, we urge you to RSVP and stand with Greg as we fight to find a solution for local families. This year’s theme is heritage weddings, so come dressed in heritage costume or vintage wedding attire to win prizes. Don’t miss the pop-up museum which will be showcasing those wedding outfits too fragile to model.  Those that are wearable will be featured in a fashion parade on the main stage.
