Valley S.O.S brings out talented youth
The Pioneer Valley’s youth are sending out an S.O.S.
More than two dozen young, talented Valley actors, singers, dancers and backstage crew have worked tirelessly to create a production titled S.O.S.
The traditional mayday call, in this instance, stands for “systems over students”.
The play’s run of shows kicks off this Friday night (October 12), with doors of the Pinnacle Playhouse opening from 6pm and the show starting at 7pm.
Three more shows will be held on October 13, 19 and 20.
Cr Fran Mann said the play was written, produced, promoted and played entirely by the young people of the Valley District Youth Council (VDYC).
“These are an incredibly talented group of young people who are not afraid to tackle big issues in society,” Cr Mann said.
“This youth council celebrated its 20th birthday last year and is one of the oldest youth council’s in Queensland,” she said.
“The annual youth production has become a regular fixture and the finished play is always original, lively and hard-hitting.”
Taylah Waters, who is in her third year of VDYC, described the production as a family-friendly play that was both a drama and a comedy.
“It has themes of friendship, individuality, wrong and right, and everyday issues that are in our society and education system,” Taylah said.
“It’s about what we see as flaws and issues with the education system,” she said.
“It follows two groups of people – one being the politicians who make a quick and cheap decision to fix the system, and the other being the students who have to live with this decision.
“This production means so much to all of the amazing individuals who have worked together the entire year to make it happen.
“We are all students; we are all the youth of this generation; we have a voice and we're using it in this production and we will be heard.”
Tickets can be pre-purchased from the Council administration building in Mirani or at the playhouse door on the night.
Concessions are $10, students $15, adults $20 and a family is $40. There is no EFPTOS available at the Pinnacle Playhouse, so please bring cash.
