Who are the local heroes in our region?

Pay it forward and let people who inspire you know you appreciate them.

Nominations are now open for the 2018 Mackay Regional Council Australia Day Awards.

The awards pay tribute to individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to their community or who have achieved exceptional results in sporting or cultural endeavours.

Community Engagement Committee chair Cr Fran Mann said it was the perfect time to reflect on the year and recognise the inspiring people in our region.

“We are nearly at the end of the year and our community has achieved a lot over the last 12 months,” she said.

“We know this wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our dedicated volunteers and community champions.

“These are the people that keep our clubs up and running, who give up their own time to help others, and inspire us to do more.

“Nominating can take as little as five minutes and everyone who is nominated for an award will be acknowledged at a special awards night on Australia Day Eve.”

There are eight awards categories including:
> Citizen of the Year

> Young Citizen of the Year

> Arts and Culture Award

> Community Group Award

> Environmental Achievement Award

> Lori Burgess Community Volunteer Award

> Senior Sports Award

> Young Sports Award
