Children’s art classes inspire learning

Artspace Mackay is preparing to deliver Kids Art Club, a rich six week program of art classes for kids in the gallery for 2012.

Renowned local artist Rosemary Payne is an experienced artist tutor who has run many successful programs with Artspace and loves bringing art into the world of children.

Community Services and Facilities portfolio councillor Karen May said the Saturday art classes respond to the ongoing vibrant range of exhibitions on show in our Artspace galleries.

During the classes, children explore and discuss the art they see on show, they talk about the artists’ processes and also about their own ideas in response to the exciting artwork they see.

“Rosemary, herself a practicing artist, introduces the children to wide ranging art techniques and materials, and truly delights in the process of making art with the children,” Cr May said.

“From participating in these classes, children learn to express themselves visually. They learn to respond to other artists work, and think of themselves as artists who explore and relate their own questions and ideas,” she said.

Kids Art Club is a term based art program and each Saturday, there are two session, 6 to 8 years old from 10am to 12noon and 9 to 12 years old from 1pm to 3pm.
