Come along to Australia Day celebrations

Thousands are expected to join in Mackay Regional Council and P.Comino & Sons 2012 Australia Day celebrations to take place around the region on Thursday, January 26.

Mayor Col Meng said a great day of family fun is planned with local performers, entertainment and activities.

“Once again we have organised three events to occur on the day at Pioneer Valley, Sarina and Mackay,” Cr Meng said.

Each event will be bursting at the seams with the announcement of the 2012 Australia Day award winners, live entertainment, kid’s amusements, cupcake decorating stations, delicious food and drink, giveaways, lamington eating competitions and much more.

Cr Meng said not only will we be celebrating Australia Day on January 26 but we will also be commemorating Mackay’s sesquicentenary (turning 150) this year.

“For that reason we have got a special treat planned for each event; a photo booth where residents can dress up with heritage and Australiana themed props and have their photo taken so that they can have a keepsake to remember the celebrations.”

Location and times for each event are:
•    Finch Hatton Showgrounds (first right after the Criterion Hotel) from 9am to 11am
•    Bob Wood Cultural Hall, corner of Anzac and Broad streets, Sarina from 12.30pm to 2.30pm
•    Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre, Alfred Street from 4pm to 7pm

Everyone who attends one of the events will have the chance to win a $500 travel voucher by simply completing an entry form on the day and placing into an entry box – please note the winner will be announced at the Mackay celebrations and that you don’t have to be present at the draw to win.
