Council’s New Year’s Eve concert has been moved indoors to the MECC foyer

Due to the heavy rains we have experienced this week and the forecast for showers over the next few days, council’s NYE concert has been moved indoors to the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre foyer.

Children’s activities and food stalls will be located under the Centre’s Promenade immediately outside.

The fireworks will still be fired from the Civic Precinct, and Gordon Street and the lawn between Artspace and the MECC as well as the MECC foyer will be the best vantage points for revellers wishing to view the fireworks.

Kids will have a ball singing and dancing along to popular Brisbane children’s performers, the Fabulous Lemon Drops.

Adults will be able to sit back, dance and enjoy the sounds of visiting group Creedence Clearwater Recycled.

There is definitely not a shortage of entertainment with a number of local bands performing as well including the Fat Cigars and Kristalex, kids’ activities, face painting, train rides and great food.

Also on the night party-goers will be treated to two sets of fireworks thanks to Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal at 9pm and midnight to cater for the young and old.

Admission to Mackay Regional Council’s 2011 New Year’s Eve celebration is free. The Entertainment Centre bar will be open for beverages inside the foyer.

Program of events for the night include:
6pm > Sensory Circus workshops
6.05pm > Fabulous Lemon Drops
6.50pm > Kristalex
7.30pm > Namarca Corowa
8.15pm > Fabulous Lemon Drops
9pm > Early family fireworks
9.15pm > Fat Cigars
10.05pm > Creedence Clearwater Recycled
12pm > Midnight fireworks

If a party atmosphere is not your thing the MECC will also be operating Ice City on New Year’s Eve with two sessions on offer, 6pm and 8pm.

The fantastic indoor skating rink is a first for Mackay and will be a wonderful activity for residents and families to enjoy.

Tickets can be booked online and costs range from $7-$10 for children and $14 for adults. Ice City is in operation until January 22.
