Residents have until January 31 to update their electoral details

With the State and Local Government elections looming Mayor Col Meng is reminding residents that they have until January 31 to ensure their electoral details are correct.

The Local Government election is set down for Saturday, March 31 and the State election is due in the first half of this year.

Mayor Col Meng said to have your say at these elections, your enrolment details need to be correct.

“If you have recently turned 18, become an Australian citizen or changed your address you need to inform the Queensland Electoral Commission so you don’t miss out on having your say.”

“Anyone who needs to update their enrolment details needs to do so before January 31, or risk missing out on having their say about how they want their Local Government area to be governed.”

Cr Meng said it’s especially important that your postal details are correct.

“For the Local Government election on Saturday, March 31 residents will be sent a postal pack and asked to vote by postal ballot.”

“If your postal details aren’t up-to-date, you will miss out on casting a vote.”

Electors who are already enrolled but need to update their address details can do so directly online at www.ecq.qld.gov.au

Persons enrolling for the first time need to download and sign the enrolment form, and return it to the Electoral Commission of Queensland, GPO BOX 1393 Brisbane 4001. Forms may also be faxed 3227 7391 or returned to any Australian Electoral Commission Office.

Enrolment forms can also be obtained from any Australia Post Office.
