Welcome the New Year at council’s family-friendly party
The Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre precinct lawns will be a hive of activity this New Years Eve on Saturday, December 31 from 6pm to midnight.
Get your family and friends together, bring along a blanket and join in the celebrations.
Mayor Col Meng said kids will have a ball singing and dancing along to popular Brisbane children’s performers, the Fabulous Lemon Drops.
“Adults will be able to sit back, dance and enjoy the sounds of visiting group Creedence Clearwater Recycled,” he said.
“There is definitely not a shortage of entertainment with a number of local bands performing as well including the Fat Cigars and Kristalex, kids activities, face painting, train rides and great food.”
Also on the night party-goers will be treated to two sets of fireworks thanks to Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal at 9pm and midnight to cater for the young and old.
Admission to Mackay Regional Council’s 2011 New Years Eve celebration is free.

8.15pm > Fabulous Lemon Drops
9pm > Early family fireworks
9.15pm > Fat Cigars
10.05pm > Creedence Clearwater Recycled
12pm > Midnight fireworks
If a party atmosphere is not your thing the MECC will also be operating Ice City on New Years Eve with two sessions on offer, 6pm and 8pm.
Cr Meng said the fantastic indoor skating rink is a first for Mackay and will be a wonderful activity for residents and visitors to enjoy over the holiday period.
Tickets can be booked online and costs range from $7-$10 for children and $14 for adults. Ice City is in operation from December 27 to January 22.
