‘Leaf Litter’ Exhibition - A collection by Maya Harrison
Lagoons Gallery and Café 4 May – 29 May 2011
Leaf litter in reality is a collection of decaying leaves, twigs, petals and bark, including all the bits that fall from plants and creatures. Leaf litter is the home of thousands of small animals and insects, as well as millions of bacteria and fungi. The interactions within leaf litter help to maintain soil fertility and structure.
Maya’s ‘Leaf Litter’ exhibition is also a collection, not only of some of its features, but also a variety of different mediums used to depict the delicates, patterns and surprises we often walk over. Maya has also used the exhibition as a venue to highlight intricacies of the plant biology, ecosystems, leaf shapes and the purpose of Latin naming , just to subtlety educate the community while viewing the Artworks.
