“Botanica V" 2010 - Botanical Art Exhibition at Lagoon's Gallery

6 October – 31 October

This year’s "Botanica V" exhibition features some of the plants growing in the Botanic Gardens. There are some special native plants included in the exhibition which are considered “Threatened in the Wild” such as the Botanic Garden's floral emblem, the Mount Blackwood Holly.

The painting (shown here) featuring the ‘Native Lasiandra’ is the logo of the Botanic Art Interest Group and flowering now in the Botanic Gardens.

The Botanic Art Interest Group is a group of artists who meet regularly at the Botanic Gardens sharing and developing their artistic skills.

The Lagoons Gallery and Cafe is open Wednesday to Friday - 10am to 3pm, Weekends 9am to 4pm.

Garden Friends Planting Bee

Saturday October 9: 9.00 am – Monsoon Garden

One of a variety of regular activities the Friends of the Gardens group participate in.

This is a great opportunity to come along and learn more about the types of plants from our bioregion that will be planted in the Botanic Gardens.  Planting bees also offers all budding green thumbs a chance to get their hands dirty and help the Gardens extend their plant collection.

All planting bees commence at 9am sharp; with a “planting induction” and participants are asked to remember to slip, slop, slap and wear closed in footwear, long sleeved shirts, hats and sunscreen.

Get on your Bike and come to the Botanic Gardens during Bike Week

There will be lots of pedals going round and round on Sunday morning 10th October.

Family Fun Ride

10:30am start for young riders (within the Botanic Gardens only)

A day out for families on their bikes sponsored by Becker Rosier Engineers and Bicycle Connection. There will be two routes, on relatively quiet roads and bicycle paths. For the really young riders, we’ll keep things on the paths within the Botanic Gardens, with questions and answers about the things they see on their journey. For families with older children, we’ll explore the new Blue Water Trail bicycle path that stretches all the way from the Botanic Gardens along the river to Town Beach. From there we’ll use quiet roads to return to the start. A BBQ lunch will follow.

Sunday in the Park - Third Sunday of every month

October 17th, 2 - 4pm
Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens

Tropical Sun Lawn, adjacent to the main entrance, 9 Lagoon Street,

Bring a chair or a blanket, B.Y.O. picnic or purchase some yummy treats from the Lagoons Cafe which is open until 4pm, then settle back, and enjoy the sounds of local musicians at this free concert.

The group is led by Dave Wilson who supplies the sound gear. Each month is different as a variety of musicians add their own flavour to the mix. The afternoon is run by the blackboard system, three songs per person initially.

Free Guided Walks at the Botanic Gardens - Every Friday at 9.30am

Free Guided Walks are available at the picturesque Botanic Gardens. The scenic lagoons and glorious foliage make perfect backdrops during your informative stroll (approx an hour in duration). Join us 9.30 am Fridays (April – October) at the Administration Building
