Come along and bring all the family to this very popular Christmas event on Saturday December 18 from 5.30 to 8.30pm.
Featuring… "The Harmonics”, "Karen Bonham" and others as the entertainers for the evening.
The ‘Friends of the Gardens’ will have their ever-popular raffles, glow candles, bracelets, and Christmas songbooks for sale. The
Lagoon Cafe will be open until late.

“Humans in Gardens” - An Exhibition by Printbank Mackay Lagoons Gallery and Cafe 1 December 2010 – 9 January 2011 A garden is many things to many people. A child might see a magical playground of colours, shapes and textures to be explored. The elderly may find solace, a place of relaxation or a forgotten memory. To the artist it is a place of awesome wonder and endless inspiration. Artists of Printbank Mackay use lino prints, etchings, and collagraph to create their artworks. Featured image is called ‘Sunday Afternoon’. It is a lino print by Brigitte Zimmerman. *** Meet the artists… Sunday 12 December from 11.30am The Lagoons Gallery and Cafe is open Wednesday to Friday - 10am to 3pm, Weekends 9am to 4pm. Creative Shots Annual Exhibition
Lagoons Gallery and Cafe 12 January – 6 February 2011 Creative Shots Photo Club Inc members enjoy the wonderful world of image making. The club welcomes all levels of photographers from beginners to advanced, with any type of camera – from compact to professional. Along with their monthly location outings, members enjoy sharing tips and techniques on taking photographs, using equipment and image software.
Their current Annual Exhibition focuses on images taken in the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens and is available for viewing at the Lagoons Gallery 12 January to 6 February

School Holiday Fun Get the kids out of the house and discover some fun holiday activities from art and crafts to discovery walks in the Gardens.

“Leaves, Sticks and Sparkly Bits”- Christmas Decorations and Cards
During the 2 hour session, Children will create a decorative Christmas mobile from leaves, twigs, skeleton leaves and sparkly bits and pieces. Opportunities to make Christmas cards with decorated leaf prints, skeleton leaves or leaf rubbings will also be available.

“Wildlife Wonders”
During the 2 hour session, Children will Search for and capture small creatures in the Gardens, either in observation containers or with their own digital camera. The creatures will then be observed more closely with Anna-lupes, magnifying glasses, computer microscope and Data projector. Details seen can then be drawn, painted, reproduced in clay sculptures, or designs and patterns developed. No animal is hurt in the process, the creatures being returned to where they were found.

Kids Botanic Art Group"
For the child who likes to draw and paint…
During the 2 hour session, Children will walk through the Gardens and be inspired by the different plants therein, the Delicate fern leaves, Brilliant bromeliads, Leaf shapes and flowers. Using selected plants and leaves, children will then try their hand at drawing / painting with water colours, paying close attention to the fine details of the different specimens, just like the Botanic Art Interest Group artists do.
Artworks will then be included in an Exhibition at the Gardens.

“Leaf us to play”
During the 2 hour session, children will walk around the gardens to find the vast variety of leaf shapes and sizes, the children will match the leaves they see to the ones on their “Bingo” list. During the walk we will find out…Which creatures use leaves for homes and food…
Included will be the opportunity to play leaf matching games, learn about simple and compound leaves and make creations from pre-collected leaves (not from the Gardens). The children will also be able to access books and stories.
