The anniversary commemorates the establishment of Captain John Mackay's camp at Greenmount in January 1862.
The year-long celebrations gave us all an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on what it means to live in this great place.
It was an opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate our people and our places.
The celebrations ran from January to December 2012.
Mackay Regional Council took the lead in planning and coordinating many events during the year. To make the year a success, council worked in partnership with organisations and communities to mark the celebrations in a meaningful way.
