Planning Schemes
The three Planning Schemes form the blue print for the Mackay Region's growth and development and has been designed to meet all of the requirements of the Integrated Planning Act (1997).
The Planning Schemes and Policies applicable to each of the former Councils prior to amalgamation will continue to apply for the geographical areas of the former Councils until a consolidated Planning Scheme is compiled for the Mackay Region. In the meantime, those wishing to make building or development applications will do so under the relevant scheme for their area.
Mackay Planning Scheme
The Mackay City Planning Scheme came into effect on 24 March 2006, and replaces Council’s Transitional Planning Scheme. It applies to the Mackay City Town Planning Scheme Area (the former Mackay City Council area).
The Scheme divides the Mackay City Planning Scheme Area (former Mackay City Council area) into Localities and Precincts, and with the use of mapping, provides a zoning to all parcels of land in each Locality. It identifies what development is assessable (requires Council approval) or self assessable, and provides various Codes to be complied with for specific uses, infrastructure, valuable features and other issues where specific outcomes are sought.
The Scheme should be read in conjunction with the Mackay City Planning Scheme Policies.
