Planning Schemes
Three existing planning schemes form the blue print for the region's growth and development and have been designed all of the requirements of the Integrated Planning Act 1997 (IPA).
The planning schemes and policies applicable to each of the former councils prior to amalgamation will continue to apply for the geographical areas of the former councils until the new Mackay 200k+ planning scheme is compiled for the amalgamated Mackay Regional council under the new planning legislation (the Sustainable Planning Act 2009).
In the meantime, those wishing to make building or development applications will do so under the relevant scheme for the planning scheme area.
