The Mackay Region is home to many significant historical buildings and landmarks. Over the years council has undertaken various projects to identify and research historical buildings and land marks in the Mackay City and the wider Mackay- Pioneer Valley region. Heritage Awards

The 2017 heritage awards were a huge success with nominations from across the region and winners in all categories. In some cases judging was at an impasse and multiple awards were given for outstanding contributions to local heritage preservation. The Character and Heritage Advisory Committee congratulates all winners showcased in the nominations booklet

Historical planning schemes

Mackay City had the first planning scheme in the State, developed by town planner R.A McInnis and adopted in 1934. Historical planning was influenced by prominent Queenslanders including architect Karl Langer. Historical planning schemes available can be found here.
