We want to share stories of inspirational local women this Women’s Week!

Council has teamed up with ABC Tropical North to acknowledge women in our area who deserve recognition, yet usually fly under the radar.

If you know an everyday woman who does exceptional things in your community, tell us their story so we can spread the word during Queensland Women’s Week (March 3-11).

To share a story, please fill in the form below with all of the relevant details. Stories will be shared over a variety of media, including radio and social media, and will be chosen at the discretion of council. Nominations close at the end of February.

The Just Saying Project’s Fabulous Figures Exhibition

When: March 4, 2018 – March 22, 2018
Monday – Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm and Saturday - Sunday 9am - 3pm
Where: Jubilee Community Centre
Cost: Free
What's happening: The Just Saying Project’s Fabulous Figures exhibition features more than 60 women from Mackay and surrounding communities who bravely volunteered to bare all, along with six photographers, one artist and writer, to bring to life the stories of each woman and their bodies.  The Just Saying Project (JSP), created this exhibition to help women feel empowered to embrace their bodies, build self-esteem in women and young girls in the Mackay community and to remind women how strong and beautiful they are. The exhibition will be held from March 4 to 22 at Jubilee Community Centre, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 3pm. Fabulous Figures aren’t perfect they’re real.

Zonta Club of Mackay International Women’s Day (IWD) Luncheon

When: Sunday, March 4, 2018. Doors open at 10am, luncheon starts at 12noon

What's happening: Zonta Club of Mackay Inc. Invites you, your colleagues and friends to attend the International Women's Day Luncheon including raffles, silent auctions, market stalls, canape buffets plus a live stream of the All About Women Satellite direct from Sydney Opera House. The UN theme for 2018 is 'LEAVE NO WOMAN BEHIND'.

Women’s Community Day: Live Satellite from Sydney Opera House + Community Market Stalls

What's happening: Celebrate the start of Queensland Women’s Week (March 3-11) and International Women’s Day (Thursday, March 8) with this free, local event. Come along and check out a variety of women’s market stalls at the MECC before heading into watch a free, live stream of the main stage action on the big screen, of the All About Women Festival, direct from Sydney Opera House.  The All About Women Simulcast will invite you to reflect on the past and imagine the future of feminism. We're excited to be streaming live up to three headline sessions and an exclusive backstage interview, direct from the Sydney.

Sarina Women’s Week Dinner

What's happening: Enjoy a two-course buffet and a night of celebrating everyday women who do exceptional things in our community. Hear from guest speakers and see the recognition of Sarina Women’s Week Awards nominations and the presentation of the Mary Malone Memorial Award trophy. Fashion Parade, stalls and lucky door prizes on the night.

Get your Body Moving session

What's happening:  Join in our Get Your Body Moving session at the Farmers' Market for all ages for during Queensland Women’s Week, to celebrate the 2018 theme of ‘Health & Well-being’. Don’t miss our cooking demonstrations on the day with a focus on food for women's health and well-being. Bring your workplace/school/mums group to join the get active session and have fun!

International Women's Day at the Dudley Denny City Library

What's happening: This year Mackay Regional Council Libraries are running an International Women’s Day event at Dudley Denny City Library. While we know that gender parity won't happen overnight, the good news is that across the world women are making positive gains day by day. Our speakers are focusing on #PressForProgress in terms of how it relates to them and their life.

Resource Industry Network International Women’s Day Lunch
What does it take to be a female leader in our sector?

When: Thursday, March 8, 2018 12noon to 2pm
Where: MECC North Foyer

What's happening: The 2018 International Women's Day Business Luncheon will feature a panel of women working in STEM trades in the resource sector, who will discuss why resources, mining and STEM fields makes for a rewarding career. Topics include career planning, goal setting and exploring the barriers that often stifle career progression and strategies for self-promotion. Hear firsthand from our panelists as they discuss their own personal experiences, share challenges faced throughout their careers and part pearls of wisdom as to how they’ve become successful female leaders in the resource industry. Free Women’s Pro-Paddle Experience

When: Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 8am to 10am
Where: Pro Paddle Mackay, Breakwater Access Road, Mackay Marina
Cost: Free
What's happening: All women are invited to attend the 'come and try' Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Morning. You will be taught the basics of SUP and will be able to have a go at one the worlds fastest growing sports. This is designed as a little taster session that will leave you wanting to come back for more. Stinger protection must be worn for this event. Long Lycra leggings to the ankle and a long sleeve rash shirt to the wrist, must be worn. There is a limited number available at Pro Paddle Mackay if you don't have your own. A water bottle and hat is also recommended. You will be looked after by fully qualified stand up paddle boards instructors that will make sure you have a safe and enjoyable session.
