Trees and vegetation

Mackay Regional Council exists in a tropical climate with diverse landscapes and vegetation ranging from rainforests and open sugar cane fields with sparse trees to heavily wooded roadside areas, city streets and beachside communities.

There are many benefits to trees and vegetation and residents are reminded that it is illegal to remove trees and vegetation on public land. People caught removing, pruning or vandalising trees and vegetation on public land will be fined. Council understands that at times, there may be a legitimate need to remove a tree. It is council’s responsibility to carry out removals and residents are asked to submit a request to council if they would like a tree removed.
