The Bluewater Trail is a key component of council's Bluewater Activation Strategy.
Sites to visit on this path include:
- Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens
- Sandfly Creek Environmental walkway
- Catherine Freeman walk
- The free three-tiered Bluewater Lagoon swimming facility
- Bluewater Quay Public Open Space and
- Iluka Park.
The trail looks to improve community well being and recreational opportunities, and provides a mixed use integrated trail through environmental and green space areas and the city's beaches.
The inclusion of two public fishing platforms at the Bluewater Quay and near the Mackay Base Hospital provides another recreational opportunity along the Bluewater Trail.
The trail has been a collaborative project with funding assistance from the Queensland Government and Australian Government.
Sections of the trail are yet to be completed, with work continuing on various pathways.
