Foreign Language Tuition - Transparent Language Online

Transparent Language Online is a powerful language learning system that uses flashcards to teach you a set of words or phrases. It is the fastest possible way to lock foreign words and phrases in your long term memory. With over 69 foreign languages as well as English modules tailored for speakers of specific other languages, TLO will have you conversing in another language before you know it!

Please note: You will need to sign in initially with your library barcode number (look for the New User? link), you will then be prompted to create a specific username and password which you will use to log in to Transparent Language Online on your subsequent visits.

lynda.com is a web-based video subscription service that provides courses for learning the latest commercial software, creative and business skills.  More than 3000 courses with 130,000 video tutorials taught by experts in their field with new courses available regularly. Topics include software, web design, photography, business and career skills, social media and job search tools.

Online English Courses - NSW AMES

Mackay Regional Council Libraries now provide access to online English language modules courtesy of NSW AMES (Adult Migrant English Services). The modules are the equivalent to IELTS 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 5.5+. Library membership is required to access this resource.

Road to IELTS: IELTS preparation course

Road to IELTS provides 120 hours of free online self study materials to support:

Each module contains 12 units based on commonly used IELTS topics, and covers reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Road to IELTS will allow you to:

  • practice IELTS listening tasks under timed conditions
  • view sample videos of speaking tests, highlighting good practice
  • develop techniques and vocabulary for writing tasks 1 and 2
  • work on authentic texts for the reading test, simulating the real exam
  • develop vocabulary in areas commonly used in the IELTS exam

You can use Road to IELTS in the library, or at home by logging in with your library barcode number.
