Friends of the Library

The Friends of Mackay Libraries Incorporated are a non-profit group whose members are interested in supporting and encouraging free library services in the Mackay region.  They give their time voluntarily to help maintain and extend library services within the community.

The volunteer group formed in 1981. The group currently has around 160 members and are always looking for more help. Friends are welcome to volunteer at any of the branches.

The Friends are divided into a number of groups according to the support they provide such as:

>Internal - assists with shelving
>Home Library (HLS) - delivers items to housebound library members
>Young people - read to young people in hospitals, assists with storytime (link) and school holiday activities (link)
