Burning off

Council does not permit the use of backyard incinerators and the like. In order to obtain permission to burn off overgrown vegetation, contact either the Queensland Fire and Rescue Authority or the Local Fire Warden.

Open fires are prohibited in the Mackay Regional Council area unless a permit has been obtained from the necessary authority. The name of your local Fire Warden can be obtained from the Rural Fire Service. Landholders, particularly those living in rural areas are encouraged to keep their property free from fire hazards.

Residents should not light or maintain fires which are likely to cause annoyance, distress or irritation to others, or expose property to risk of damage or destruction. Any nuisance arising from the permitted burn off must be controlled to eliminate the nuisance on neighbouring properties.
