Bluewater Trail

bluewater-trailA vision of the previous Mackay City Council, the Bluewater Trail is a key component of council’s Bluewater Activation Strategy.

There are six key sites along the shared pathway including the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, Sandfly Creek Environmental walkway, Catherine Freeman walk, the free three-tiered Bluewater Lagoon swimming facility, Bluewater Quay Public Open Space and Iluka Park.

The trail looks to improve community well being and recreational opportunities and provides a mixed use integrated trail through environmental and green space areas and the city’s beaches.

The inclusion of two public fishing platforms (Bluewater Quay) and near the Mackay Base Hospital provides another recreational opportunity along the Bluewater Trail.

The trail has been a collaborative project with funding assistance from the Queensland Government and Australian Government.

A few sections of the trail are yet to be completed, with work continuing on pathways along Bridge Road and the final section of the Pioneer Promenade from the Bluewater Lagoon to Caneland Central.
