Roads

Mackay Regional Council is committed to maintaining its vast road network for the region's residents. 

With more than 1010 kilometres of sealed roads, 510 kilometres of gravel and earth roads, 153 kilometres of footpaths and cycle ways, and almost 800 kilometres of kerb and channeling to maintain, Council's Works crews are frequently out and about.  Road works include:

  • constructing roads, bikeways and footpaths
  • road shoulders
  • street sweeping
  • marking lines on roads
  • grading rural roads
  • repairing bridges
  • drains
  • bus shelters
  • off-street parking
  • quarry operations
  • traffic signals

Council is also included in the North Queensland Road Alliance (NQRA) which aims to secure funding for upgrades to the Bruce Highway from Sarina to Cairns.
