Inflatable Sandbag Rebate
As an incentive to encourage residents and business operators to prepare for the storm season, Mackay Regional Council is offering a rebate to residents and business operators that purchase inflatable gel based sandbags to protect their properties.
A rebate of $5 per sandbag (maximum $25 per property) will be available to all owners and tenants of residential and commercial properties within the Mackay Regional Council area.
The new light weight bio-degradable sandbags have a five year shelf life when stored in the vacuum sealed packages and increase in volume from less than 500grams to 13 kilograms (compared to 25 to 30 kilograms of traditional sandbags) when submerged in water for three (3) to five (5) minutes.
Two types of inflatable gel based sandbags will be stocked in Mackay and District hardware stores.
Council is not endorsing one product over the other.

To receive the rebate, please complete the application form (PDF 394 KB), provide a copy of the proof of purchase and proof of residency (e.g. rates notice, electricity or phone notice).
The rebate can either be reimbursed as a credit onto the rate assessment or by cheque.
The rebate is not available on the purchase of standard hessian sandbags.
