Catch up with councillors over breakfast

Residents are invited to kick off their State of Origin opener preparations by catching up with councillors over breakfast next week.

Councillors are visiting the Southern Region on Wednesday (June 5) for their monthly Council in Community Day.

The day also happens to coincide with game one of this year’s Origin series.

An earlier-than-normal start is planned, with a Community Catch-up breakfast being held at Bakers Creek Community Hall in Ivers Street from 7.30am to 8.30am.

Cr Karen May said council was trying something new for the community catch-up in the Southern Region this month.

“Many of our catch-ups during previous Council in Community Days have been in the afternoon,’’ Cr May said.

“We’re hoping a breakfast catch-up will allow members of the community to pop in on their way to work or before they go about their daily tasks.’’

Cr May said community catch-ups were a great way for residents to provide feedback or raise any issues direct to councillors and senior management in an informal setting.

There is no need to RSVP for the breakfast. Simply turn up at the community hall just before 7.30am.

Cr May said council would be showing its parochial support for the Queensland State of Origin side during the day.

“Councillors have been invited to dress in maroon for the day,’’ she said.
