Happy Chinese New Year!

2019 is the Year of the Pig and Mackay City Centre restaurants are offering up a feast of Chinese inspired delicacies to celebrate.

On Saturday, February 16, restaurants throughout the City Centre will ring in the Chinese New Year with Chinese-themed menus, decorations and entertainment.

Cr Justin Englert said everyone was invited to come along to one of the many restaurants and join the celebrations.

“This year we are celebrating Chinese New Year a little differently,” he said.

“The Mackay City Centre will become a mini China Town, with participating restaurants offering diners traditional New Year dishes, as well as some more modern Asian plates.

“Chinese Dragon and Lion performers will entertain diners outside on the street, where they will be roaming Wood Street between 6pm and 9pm.

“I encourage everyone to make sure they contact their restaurant of choice to book their tables now so as not to miss out on a great night.”

Cr Englert said the Mackay Chinese Community would host its own New Year celebration, marking the Year of the Pig, with a special invitation-only event at the Jubilee Community Centre on Saturday, February 9.

“This special event will give our Chinese community the opportunity to come together in their own way and celebrate this very special day in their calendar.”
