Councillors active for community day

Mackay councillors will be on the move this Wednesday (March 6) travelling to areas ranging from Rowallan Park to the Northern Beaches.

They will have briefings and meetings on everything from mountain biking to tourism in the Northern Beaches as part of a monthly Council in Community Day.

There will also be an opportunity for residents to catch up with councillors at Blacks Beach Tavern from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Cr Laurence Bonaventura said fitness would be a common theme of the day.

“We’re having a briefing from Mackay and District Mountain Bike Club and scouts at Rowallan Park in the morning,’’ he said.

“We’re then travelling to the Blacks Beach Stairs for more fitness briefings, including from a representative of Women Who Walk.”

The day-long agenda also includes briefings from Northern Beaches tourism operators, police and Neighbourhood Watch.

Cr Ross Gee said the community catch-up at Blacks Beach Tavern at 3.30pm was a good opportunity for Northern Beaches residents to meet with councillors and senior management.

“Anyone is welcome to attend and we’re hoping some residents will come along and take the opportunity to catch up with councillors,’’ he said.

“The catch-up is a great way for residents to raise any issues or provide feedback direct to council.”

Anyone unable to attend the community catch-up can contact their locality councillors direct. Contact details are on the council website at mackay.qld.gov.au
