Published: 18 Dec 2018

Combine some famous owl pals with four experienced rockers and a rising 18-year-old local songstress and you have a New Year’s Eve party to suit everyone.

Kicking off at 6pm and running until 9pm at the Bluewater Quay, the Mackay City Centre New Year’s Eve River Party will be a free event targeting the whole family.

It will also boast two massive fireworks displays – one at 9pm for families and another at midnight for revellers.

Cr Justin Englert said a couple of familiar children’s TV characters would be entertaining the littlies for two 20-minute shows at 6.05pm and 7.30pm.

“Hoot and Hootabelle from the ABC Kids show Giggle and Hoot will be a hit for sure, and from 6.30-7.25pm, the lovely Kate Lockyer will perform a variety of songs,” Cr Englert said.

“Kate is just 18 and has been singing since she can remember and performing since she was nine,” he said.

“She loves everything from jazz to musical theatre and classical music, to pop and more contemporary music.

“Then, before the 9pm fireworks, the rock band 4 Shades of Gray will kick things up a bit.

“This local rock outfit are fresh from the Airlie Beach Festival of Music and specialise in solid rock from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

“Their powerhouse vocals combined with rocking guitar, bass and percussion will have everyone up and dancing.”

The event will be emceed by StarFM’s Rob Kidd and will also offer a delicious range of food and a variety of market stalls.  Kids entertainment will also be on offer, including jumping castles, merry-go-round and the ever-popular face painting.
