Originality, creativity and local talent at market event

Finding an original gift in today’s world of mass production and fast fashion is almost impossible.

However, savvy shoppers always have one event marked in their calendar for early Christmas shopping – the Rock, Paper, Scissors Art and Design Markets.

Held on the beautiful Civic Precinct lawns beside Artspace Mackay, this event is a curated art market brimming with marvellous hand-made creations.

Running from 1pm to 4pm this Sunday, September 15, this is a relaxed afternoon event that makes the most of mild spring temperatures and clear skies.

Cr Fran Mann said there’s everything from pottery, woodturnings, prints and paintings to custom bags, hand-made furniture, intricate clocks, local designer fashions, artesian honey, sculptures and jewellery.

“And, once you’re done shopping, there are nine exciting food vendors offering an array of tasty bites including plenty of sweet treats,” Cr Mann said.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to bring a picnic blanket, lounge on the grass and listen to a string of local musicians guaranteed to create a relaxed atmosphere,” she said.

“The afternoon has a fun vibe, showcasing proud and local stallholders showing off their creations.”

Vision impaired artist David Conway, from Art from the Blindside, will also be conducting pastel and charcoal drawing demonstrations at the event.

You can see him in action at 1.30pm and 3pm.

Entry to the Rock, Paper, Scissors Art and Design Market is free.
