Pool heating delayed

Published: 28 May 2019

Delays to the installation of heating systems at Pioneer and Memorial Swim Centres have pushed back the reopening of these facilities.

Memorial Swim Centre is expected to remain closed until Friday, June 14 (reopens Saturday, June 15).

The closure will facilitate the installation of a new heating unit and repainting the 50m pool shell and concourse.

The bathrooms and amenities are also being repaired and upgraded.

Pioneer Swim Centre will then close on Saturday, June 15, for maintenance and the installation of its new heating system, and will reopen on Saturday, June 29.

Works have also been undertaken at the Mackay Aquatic and Recreation Complex to block cool winds that impact the learn to swim pool.

Perspex panelling has been installed on the south-easterly side to reduce the prevailing gusts that funnel in from that direction.

Other pools in our region will also close for maintenance on the following dates:

Mirani Swim Centre and Sarina Pool

  • Closed Friday, April 19
  • Reopens September (pending weather conditions)

Bluewater Lagoon

  • Closes Monday, July 15
  • Reopens Sunday, September 1
