Safety improved at Victoria Street intersections

Council is working to improve safety at two intersections on Victoria Street.

Construction works on two roundabouts at the intersections of Victoria and Lawson and Victoria and Tennyson streets will start this Sunday, weather permitting.

Cr Kevin Casey said council was committed to improving the safety of roads in the region.

“Car crashes have been recorded at both intersections in the past,” he said.

“By installing roundabouts at these locations, we hope to reduce the likelihood of future crashes in these areas.

“Council maintains 2451km of road network and we are dedicated to making our roads as safe as possible.

“In doing so, we also encourage drivers to drive safely, be aware of their surroundings when driving and drive to the conditions.”

Construction of the roundabouts will be completed at night from Sunday, April 7, until late June, weather permitting. The road will be closed between 6pm and 6am and will be reopened throughout the day.

This project is fully funded by the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.
