Say g’day to $10,000 in Australia Day funding

Mackay Regional Council has increased its Australia Day event grant funding, with $10,000 now up for grabs.

Mayor Greg Williamson said the increase in funding would make it easier for community groups to get involved.

“Australia Day event grant funding is open to all not-for-profit groups in the Mackay region to create a fair dinkum Aussie Day celebration,” Cr Williamson said.

“Community groups can apply for up to $1000 to help support their Australia Day event and share their Aussie pride with local residents,” he said.

“Council proudly supports a number of ripper events each year for locals to celebrate what they love about our region.

“The events often include beach games and barbecues, family fairs in local parks, sporting competitions and Australia Day awards ceremonies.”

Council supported 10 events across the region last year, with more than 2500 people attending.

To be eligible for funding, events need to be held on Australia Day 2020 (Sunday, January 26), be free for all to attend and held within the Mackay Regional Council area.

Organisers also need to be a registered not-for-profit group or have a letter of support from a registered group.

Applications are now open and will close at midnight Sunday, November 10.
