3) Star 101.9’s Fire in the Sky

Friday, August 9, 4pm – 8pm
Bluewater Quay

STAR101.9 is lighting up the sky! From 4pm - 8pm Star is throwing a massive party at the Bluewater Quay with free family entertainment, local Mackay talent, free kids zone, River Street Twilight Markets, food stalls and more wrapping up with a fireworks display synchronized to music at 7:30. Pack a blanket, bring your portable radio and settle in for a massive afternoon and night of excitement.

4) River Street Twilight Market

Our community night market showcasing local food, farmers and artisan makers joins with Star101.9's Fire in The Sky for a wonderful night in our River City. The River Street Twilight Markets provides a beautiful riverside experience for families, couples and singles.  Bring a blanket and relax on your Friday night under the stars and by the river. Tune out to the vibes of local music and enjoy a delicious food experience. Get a glimpse of what our river front precinct under the new PDA will be like by visiting the Mackay Regional Council River Front Development Showcase Tent.

5) Art Walk Tour

Hosted by Artspace Director Tracey Heathwood, explore our iconic art installations, designed and created by some of Australia’s most talented artists. Whether you are a creator, artist or just enjoy the beauty of art, there is plenty to discover in the Mackay City Centre. The Art Walk will begin at Artspace Mackay at 4.30pm and will finish at the special, Fire in the Sky event including the River Street Twilight Market and Paxtons Night Markets. Come along for a beautiful and informative night in the Mackay City Centre.

6) Bus tour: The Mackay Aussie Farm and Drinks Tour

Departs from The MECC

A choice of fully guided whole day tours to enjoy the highlights of our region! 8am - 4.30pm. Lunch, snacks and drinks included. The tours will take visitors to family owned farms in-season as well as other food-related businesses who use local produce.

10) STEAM Club

Children in years three to six are invited to explore the fascinating world of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Imagine, invent, discover and create with fun and challenging hands-on activities. Sessions range from Lego play to coding challenges, science experiments, creative arts to mini Makerspaces. Our STEAM Club offers something for everyone.


Seniors Expo

Tuesday, August 20, 9am – 1pm  
Mackay Showgrounds

The Seniors Expo for 2019 will be held on Tuesday, August 20 from 9am – 1pm. Whether you want to get your blood pressure or hearing checked, or if you want to check out a new hobby or the latest-release mobility scooters or aids, the expo will have something for you. There will be plentiful and easy parking close to the venue and a drop-off and pick-up zone for those with mobility issues. A range of food and refreshments will be on offer, but residents will need to bring cash as there is NO EFTPOS at the venue.

Picnic in the Park

Thursday, August 22, 10am – noon  
Civic Precinct  

Dress up as your favourite book character and join us for a picnic in the park, Story Time under the trees and Baby Bounce on the lawn.  There will be loads of fun for the kids with face painting, puppets, craft activities plus heaps more! Bring a picnic, rug, water bottle and hat.
