There is plenty to do around the region this weekend – Take your senses on a tour around the world at Global Grooves on Saturday. Keep on snapping for the Mackay Through The Lens competition, it’s ending November 1, or visit Artspace Mackay’s new exhibition showcasing the work of 33 Artel Artists.

2) Global Grooves

Take your senses on a tour around the world. Held at the Meadowlands Amphitheatre in the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, Global Grooves is a free event and will feature authentic food, music, dance, costumes and art from around the world. 3) ‘Jeepers Creepers’ by the Botanic Art Interest Group

The ‘Jeepers Creepers’ botanical art exhibition focuses on colourful, curious and captivating flora which are commonly known as vines, scramblers, climbers, creepers or lianas. Botanical art combines detail, accuracy and artistry, with many hours needed for each graphite drawing, pastel drawing, watercolour or acrylic painting. 6) Mackay Through The Lens Photo competition

8) Kids Art Club

Book in now for six-week program of creative art for kids in two age groups. Saturday art classes with award winning artist Rosemary Payne will have the creative sensors flowing! Students will explore and respond to the exhibitions on show at Artspace Mackay through fun-filled art activities. 9) Anti-poverty food drive

Did you know charities in our region have hundreds of requests for food parcels every month? Help us help them by donating non-perishable food items and toiletries. Donations will be given to St Pauls Uniting Church Mackay, Anglicare Mackay Whitsunday Region - Counselling and Support Services and Sarina Inter Church Council to replenish their food pantries and prepare charitable Christmas hampers. Food items must be in-date and undamaged.

Drop-off points: Jubilee Community Centre, Council Client Service Centre - 73 Gordon Street, Dudley Denny City Library, Gordon White Library, Paget Council Depot, Mirani Library and Client Service Centre, Walkerston Library and Sarina Neighbourhood Centre.

10) Reasonable & Necessary: Prints and artist books by Artel Artists

This inspiring touring exhibition showcases the work of 33 Artel Artists, some of whom possess complex and profound disabilities.
