The next time you need a drink, reach for your tap!

Water from our Marian Water Treatment Plant was named Australia’s best at the 2019 Ixom Best Tasting Tap Water Competition held in Dunkeld, Victoria, on Saturday.

Mackay has won the Queensland title for the past two years, firstly winning with water from the Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant in 2018 and then the Marian Water Treatment Plant in 2019.

Both were national finalists for 2019 and we now have the Australian title.

Mayor Greg Williamson said it was great to know that we are providing our residents with the very best h2o.

“You don’t need to go to the big capital cities to get the best water. We have it right here in our very own backyard,” he said.

“Our water is sourced from the beautiful Pioneer River, which originates in the tropical rainforests of the Eungella National Park and the Crediton State Forest.

“It is then treated at the Marian Water Treatment Plant and distributed to more than 6000 Marian and Mirani residents.”

Cr Williamson said this award was testament to council’s entire water services team.

“Water from rivers needs to go through a thorough treatment process to remove any impurities and we are providing our residents with the cleanest and best tasting tap water in Australia.”

Mackay Regional Council’s water will represent Australia at the annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition in West Virginia in the United States next year.

Mackay will also be nominated to host the next Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) Best Tasting Tap Water Competition.
