Book in now to bag a bargain

Published: 21 Sep 2020

Lovers of bargains and books are in for a treat next week.

Mackay Regional Council Libraries have two storage sheds worth of books they need to find loving homes for and will be holding a members-only book sale from Monday, September 28 at Gordon White Library.

The sale will run until Saturday, October 3.

Library members can pick up a small bag of books for just five dollars and a large bag or box for 10 dollars.

Deputy Mayor Karen May said social distancing requirements required a different approach for this book sale.

“The sale will be held across six days as a fully ticketed event, and we need attendees to be members to allow for ease of contact tracing,” Cr May said.

“Tickets will be made available for up to 10 people for 30 minutes each with a 15-minute sanitisation period between bookings,” she said.

“Sessions will run from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and from 9am to 2pm on Saturday.

“Each attendee will need to pre-book tickets via Eventbrite for each person attending with them, including children.

“All the details are on Mackay Regional Council Libraries’ Facebook page. And, of course, those without internet access can call 4961 9387 to book a ticket.”

Cr May said Libraries carried multiple copies of popular titles and once those titles were no longer in high demand some copies were removed from circulation.

“From then, they just take up valuable storage space,” She said. “So, by picking up a bargain, you will be opening up space for us to get new items in.

“There’s a great range on offer, with everything from bestsellers to books on gardening, craft and cooking.

“Book sales like this are a wonderful, sustainable way that we can offer readers a great deal while also having a bit of a clean-up – it’s a win, win.”

Bargain-hunters are asked to bring their own bags and cash.  If you’re not already a member, you can join in-branch or join online for free.
